Certified Neuromuscular Therapy

Certified Neuromuscular Therapy, or NMT, is a specialized form of bodywork that is effective in treating and relieving chronic pain, sports injuries, and pre and post surgical conditions. NMT is widely regarded by physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists and massage therapists as a highly effective treatment for pain relief. Treatment involves the palpation and release of trigger points found in muscle tissue, tendon attachments, and connective tissue that inhibit range of motion and cause pain and dysfunction. NMT is an effective therapy for many because of the specificity of finding and releasing the pain-producing trigger points, and does not necessarily require deep pressure. The session is performed like a traditional therapeutic massage, however long-term pain relief, not relaxation, is the overall goal.

NMT treatments are highly effective for the relief of specific pain and chronic pain from medical conditions, and is treated as a short-term therapy, similar to physical therapy. Once the specific pain has been relieved, the client is then transitioned to therapeutic massage treatments for the maintenance of trigger points and pain. NMT is an excellent complimentary therapy for clients receiving physical therapy or chiropractic adjustments as the restrictions in the muscle tissue are released, helping to make the other therapies more effective.

Our advanced training and Certification in Neuromuscular Therapy and advanced knowledge of anatomy and chronic pain patterns is why many physicians to recommend our treatments to their patients.

Certified KMI Structural Integration

Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI) is a form of therapy involving a series of twelve sessions that works toward reaching the body’s full potential of movement by manipulating the connective tissue and muscle to release these held patterns. Clients receiving the KMI sessions may experience a relief of chronic and acute pain, an increase in muscle flexibility, an increase in daily energy, increased range of motion in joints, and more fluid movement.

Throughout our lives our bodies are shaped and reshaped into holding patterns as a result of trauma, repetitive motion, emotional stress, daily habits, and the imitated movements of those we learned from. By the time we perceive pain, it is often because our body has shifted away from the area of original distress, and created compensation patterns throughout the tissue. KMI works to systematically release restrictions in the tissue to bring the body back to a more neutral, energy-efficient position.

KMI sessions are performed with clients in their underwear or a bathing suit, and clients are asked to remain engaged and perform different actions and movements throughout each session. These added movements aid in the structure’s ability to re-pattern and accept the changes of the therapy. KMI is inherited from the original teachings of Dr. Ida Rolf as interpreted by Thomas Myers. Certified Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage is for any expectant mother who would like to be relaxed and relieved of the aches and pains associated with the ever-changing pregnant body. The base modality of the prenatal massage is Swedish, which utilizes long, flowing strokes to increase circulation, provide relaxation, and reduce swelling. The treatment is performed with the client in a bolstered and supported side-lying position to ensure safety for mother and child. A Semi-reclining position may be used in the second or third trimesters, if indicated by the referring Obstetrician, for specific medical conditions. Prenatal massage can be received by all normal-pregnancy expecting moms in the second or third trimester; treatments for moms with high-risk pregnancies are performed with a written release from the referring physician.

Special considerations must be made when working on an expectant mother to ensure that the treatment will be safe, effective and nurturing. Our therapists have advanced training and certification, and are well-skilled in the art of Prenatal Massage. Our dedication to our clients and our experience in working with pregnant women is what makes Obstetricians and Midwives refer patients to us with confidence and ease.
